The Lincoln estate in Hanslope |
Lincoln is a city with over 2000 years of history, lying some 80 miles north of Hanslope. It traces it origins back to an Iron age settlement, becoming a major Roman garrison and later one of the five principal "burghs" of the Danish settlement of England, and an important medieval city. Old Lincoln stands on a hill dominated by the legacy of the two major powers of medieval England: the feudal lords and the church. In Lincoln the castle and cathedral stand on opposite sides of Castle Square. |

Steep Hill leading up to market square affords glimpses of the Cathedral between a wide mix of buildings from the past. But below the hill, it is difficult to get even a glimpse without looking past poor 19th and 20th century buildings. | |||
