Lease                                                                   23 March 1 & 2 Philip & Mary [1555]
The Mayor etc. of Lincoln
to John Williams of London, gentleman, one of the secretaries to the Lord Chancellor
of the rectory parsonage and manor of Hanslope with the appurtenances in Bucks. all the church and churchyard of the said parsonage and all the messuages houses buildings orchard gardens tofts crofts glebe lands tenements meadows pasture closures [closes?] rent and tithes oblations ..... fruits offerings waifs strays courts leets and view of frankpledge amerciaments and profits rights liberties posessions and hereditaments in Hanslope and elsewhere in Bucks. to the said church rectory or parsonage and manor and every of them in any wise appertaining etc. The advowson and gift of the vicarage excepted and reserved to the mayor etc. of Lincoln
to be held from the Feast of the Annunciation next for 20 years
paying yearly £60 at Michaelmas and Lady Day
also paying to John Staytt clerk and vicar of Hanslope and his successors as vicars of Hanslope a yearly rent of £ 14-13-4 for his pension due out of the said rectory and manor of Hanslope, to be paid at Michaelmas and Lady Day, and the mayor etc. of Lincoln to be discharged of the payment of the said sum due to the said vicar
and also paying unto the said now Vicar of Hanslope £29-6-8 heretofore granted by the mayor etc. of Lincoln out of the said parsonage and manor during his life as long as he continue vicar of Hanslope, on St. John's Day, Michaelmas, Christmas Day and Lady Day by equal portions; and if the said John Staytt shall cease to be vicar of Hanslope, then to pay the said sum unto the hands of the mayor of Lincoln
John Williams is to bear and pay all manner of sums of money pensions stipends etc. and all other payments and charges in any wise charged or going out of the said church rectory parsonage and manor aforesaid with proviso for serving the cure of the church and parish of Hanslope
If rents etc. not paid then mayor etc. of Lincoln to repossess
The mayor etc. of Lincoln covenant that within one year next at their cost and charges to repair and make tenantable the said parsonage houses barns . . ... of the premises above letten
John Williams covenants that he shall after the said rectory parsonage and houses be sufficiently repaired and made tenantable stand and be charged with all manner of repairs to said rectory parsonage houses and other buildings set and builded of the said parsonage and manor during the said term
and also to keep in repair walls fences and inclasures; and also the said parsonage [and manor?] with all other houses and buildings there or lately being covered with tile or slate sufficiently shall repair and amend the like with tile and slate
at the end of the term it is to be sufficiently repaired and four indifferent persons chosen by the mayor are to view it
it is agreed that at any time hereafter the mayor etc. of Lincoln may appoint and assign parcel of the said rectory parsonage and mansion house to be one sufficient mansion house for the vicar of Hanslope and an orchard and garden to the same to the vicar of Hanslope, without rent or other payment to the said John Williams, and the vicar is to have quiet enjoyment of the same
John Williams will not alienate or assign the leased premises without the consent of the mayor etc. of Lincoln
The said John Williams is to maintain and keep house and hospitality of and in the said parsonage manor and mansion house from Michaelmas next to the end of the said term
