Narrative

Abstract of Title for Mr John Miles of a Messurge and Close in Hanslope in the County of Bucks purchasd by his late father Mr Richard Miles deceased, to one John Dennis and Others.

12th October 1651- Feoffment with livery, endorsed by George Wilkinson in discharge of the trust in him by John Wilkinson and said John Wilkinson of £130 grant to Thomas Freeman and his heirs.  This includes Haversham Place, 4a of land in the centre of Hanslope, (Probably Dennis's Close), this land is owned by William Panter, butcher.

June 1659- Will of Thomas Freeman, leaving his estate he purchased from the Wilkinsons to his wife which will revert to his son when he turns 22 years.

April 1708- Feoffment with livery between Edward Gregory and Mary his wife and Thomas Brice and his wife Ann and Catherine Freeman, (widow of Thomas Freeman) and John Dennis an his wife Elizabeth to keep said properties and land for the rest of his life and his heirs.

Dec 1711- Mortgage for the said John Dennis and his wife for £50 and interest, Richard Wendleborough for the said properties and land.

9th-10th April 1714- Mortgage is transferred from John Dennis and his wife Elizabeth, to Richard Miles and his heirs.

1st July 1719- Confirmation of exchange of land and mortgage of the said properties and land between John Dennis and his wife Elizabeth, Edward Gregory and wife Mary, and Charles Lane, unto Richard Miles and his heirs.  The properties and land include 4 messurges, 4 gardens, 4 orchards, 4a land, 45a of land and common pasture for cattle to graze.

October 1651

By Indenture of Feoffment with Livery indorsed George. Wilkinson in Discharge of the  trust in him reposed by John Wilkinson, said John Wilkinson in consideration of £130 granted unto Ths Freeman & his Heires

All that Messuage called Haversham Place & a Close of pasture adjoining by estimation 4 acres in Hanslopp aforesaid the Town ground and the Lane leading into Hanslopp aforesaid south the House & ground of Wiliam Panter Butcher north & abutts upon the Street & said Town ground  west and upon ground of Grissell Reeve Widow East

To hold to said Thomas Freman & his Heirs __ warrantys __ Covenant to produce All originall writings for Defence of Title to said premises with other usual covenants

 June 1659  By Will said Thomas Freeman devised said Messuage to his wife Catherine To hold to said Catherine until his Son Thomas accomplish Age of 22 in Liew of Dower or thirds & paid remainder of a Legacy out of his personal Estate left by Will of his Mother Isabella Foster to his Brother Christopher Foster & not to permit Wast & if said Caherine refuse to accept said Devise in Lieu of Dower & to then render Account & Satisfaction to such person as the Inheritance descends to of profits during time she enjoys same & devise said Messuage & all other the premises to said Son Thomas (after accomplishing 22) To hold to said Son Thomas & his Heirs pay £20 to said Catherine on her executing a Release or other sufficient Discharge for Dower & to his two Daughters Mary & Ann £15 a piece & in case said Son Thoma.dies before 22 or does not pay said Legacies with which he charges said messuage & Premise  He devises said Messuage & Premises to said two daughters Mary and Ann and their heirs and if his wife Catherine dies before Receipt of said £20 He gives same to his Daughters in case either of said Daughters dies before Receipt of said £15 & £20 give same to survivor & gives his Wife All his personal Estate Except Lease of said Close & appoints her Executix & ordains John Budd & William Truelove Overseers of his will

By Indenture of Feoffment with Livery indorsed between Edward Gregory & Mary his Wife and Thomas Brice & Ann his wife & Catherine Freeman Spinster of one part & John Dennis of other part

Reciting that Elizabeth now Wife of John Dennis & said Mary Gregory  & Ann Brice and Catherine Freeman are coheirs at Law to said Messuage Close & premise and that said Edward Gregory & Mary his wife Thomas Brice & Ann is Wife & Catherine Freeman in Consideration of £86:5 (to be equally divided between them as Coheirs as aforesaid) have contracted agreed to convey all their Rights .. to said Premises to said John Dennis and his Heirs

Said Edward Gregory & Mary his Wife & Thomas Brice & Ann his Wife & Catherine Freeman in consideration of 86:5s grant unto said John Dennis and his Heirs

All said Messuage Close & Premises with the Appurtences.

To hold to said John Dennis & his Heirs __Warranty__Covent that all assurances & shall enure to Use of said John Denis his Heirs with other usual Covts.

Executed by said Edward Gregory & Wife Thomas Brice & Wife & Cath. Freeman __ Receipt indorsed for Considertion Money Bond to perform Covenants

By Indenture of Mortgage said John Dennis & Elizabeth his Wife in Consideration of £50 demise unto Richard Wendleborough his Executors Administrators & Assigns

All said Messuage Close & premises

To hold to said Richard Wendleborough his Executors for 1000 years Defeazable on payment of £50 & Interest

 [BD1]Chirograph: A writing which, requiring a counterpart, was engrossed twice on the same piece of parchment, with a space between, in which was written the word chirographum, through which the parchment was cut, and one part given to each party. It answered to what is now called a charter party.
