Thomas Hindes.

Thomas Hindes, Haversham Place, Dennis Close.

Summary

The sale of two properties and a piece of land in Hanslope. The abstract begins in 1755 with the details of the properties, gardens and other lands belonging to John Miles. In 1804 Caroline Miles Hoddle has inherited the land and sells to Joseph Hindes.

Narrative

Abstract of Title for the land belonging to Thomas Hindes Senior, being sold in accordance of his will, Thomas Hindes Junior fulfilling the role on behalf of his fathers estate.

Abstract starts in 1755 stating that John Miles owns 7 messures, 7 gardens, 50a land, 10a meadow, 50a pasture common land for cattle,(before enclosure act.) In 1756 John Miles sells 5 messures, 6 garden, 50a of meadow land and 40a of pasture land.

By 1804 John Miles has died and Caroline Miles Hoddle, (John Miles only heir) has inherited 1 cottage and garden formally called Haversham Place, (tenant-Catherine Branston,) Dennis Close, and 4a of new enclosed land, (Leavers Close-1779 Map.)  In the same year Caroline Miles Hoddle sells the above properties and land to Joseph Hindes for £284.  £284 would have provided 1893 days of wages for a General Labourer in the 1800's.

After some research we discovered that Haversham Place is now Vicarage Court, originally owned by the Forster family, Laurance Forster, (brother to Sir Guy Forster.)

Levers Close is now a field behind Hazle Row situated in Newport Rd.

Caroline Miles Hoddle was allowed to live in one of the properties she sold without encumbrance for the rest of life, only paying 2 shillings a week to provide bread for the poor widows of Hanslope, in accordance to her grandfathers Will, Richard Miles.

The above properties and lands remain in the Hinde family until the death of Thomas Hindes Senior, probably in 1844.

Caroline Miles Hoddle Seller
Sold Haversham Place-(Vicarage Court), Dennis Close-(Yew Tree Terrace, middle cottage) and Leavers Close in Kingston Lane. Caroline inherited the property and land from her father Stephen Hoddle and Sarah Miles, though we think that Sarah was written in incorrectly as Sarah died when she was 22 years, and it was more likely to be France Miles who he married in 1746.

Sarah/Frances is mother to Caroline Miles Hoddle who is her only heir. After some more research we have found that this Sarah is possibly a cousin who lived in All Hallows, London.
