In the name of God Amen I John fforty of Hanslop in the County of Bucks Gent being weak and infirm of body but of a sound mind and memory (praised be God for the same) doe therefore make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and forme following (that is to say) ffirst and principally I recommend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God my heavenly father by whom of his mercy and only Grace I trust to be saved and received into the Eternal rest through the meritorious passion resurrection and ascention of my ever blessed Saviour and Redeemer Jesus Christ whole most precious blook alone I sett the whole and only hope of my Salvation And my body I committ to the Earth to be decently interred by my Executrix hereafter named And as to my worldly Estate wherein it hath pleased the all mercifull God to bless me withall I dispose of as followeth (that is to say) I give and bequeath unto my dear and loveing wife ffrances fforty All that my messuage or dwelling house wherein I now dwell situate Standing and being within the parish of Hanslop aforesaid together with all and Singular the houses edifices buildings barnes Stables yards orchards gardens backfields and appurtenances whatsoever unto the same belonging or in any wise appertaining to have and to hold the said messuage or tenement with the appurtenances unto my said wife for and dureing the terme of her naturall life and from and after her decease I give and devise the said Messuage or dwelling house with the appurtenances unto my Grandson John fforty and his heirs for ever Item I give and devise unto my said wife ffrances fforty and John Parratt of Hanslap aforesaid Malster all that my Close of pasture or inclosed ground lyeing and being within the parish of Hanslop aforesaid containing by Estimation Eleven acres ( be the same more or less) and called or there known by the name of Ken Close or Lady land Close together with all and Singular the appurtenances unto the Same belonging or in any ways appertaining to have and to hold the said Close of pasture or inclosed ground and premisses with the appurtenances unto my said wife ffrances fforty and John Parratt their Executors Administrators and Assignes from and immediately after my decease for and dureing all the rest and residue of the said terme or termes therein then to come and unexpired Upon ..... trust and confidence in them reposed and to the intent and purpose that they the said ffrances fforty and John Parratt or the Survivor of them or his or their respective heirs Executors or Assignes respectively shall with all Convenient Speed make Sale of all the said Closes of pasture or inclosed ground with the appurtenances and all their Estate terme and termes of years therein for the best price that can bona fide be gotten for the same and shall by the moneys raised by such Sale and by the rents issues and  profits of the said Close of pasture ground and premisses in the meantime until such Sale satisfy and pay all and every such debts I shall owe unto any person or persons whatsoever at the time of my decease And also all my legacies herein by me devised and after the same are paid and discharged what moneys shall remain thereof I give unto my said Grandson Edward fforty the summe of five pounds to  be paid him within five years after my decease. Item I give unto my Granddaughter ffrances Higgins ten pounds to be paid within five years after my decease All the rest of my goods and Chattels unbequeathed I devise and give unto my said wife ffrances whom I do hereby make Sole Executrix of this my last will and testament And I do hereby revoke all manner of former and other wills and testaments by me made anyways  heretofore made or declared  In Witness whereof I have hereunto Sett my hand and Seal this Ninth day of October in the ninth( year) of the reigne of his most gratious Majestie William the third King over England etc Anno Dom 1697 John fforty for and as his last will and testament in the presence of us whose names were hereunto subscribed in the presence of the Testator John Postgate William Roberts T Pomfrett
