Notes A scrivener is a drafter of documents, a copyist.

Strangely there are copies of this will in the National Archives (from the Prerogative Court of Canterbury); and in The Centre for Buckinghamshire Studies (from the Archdeaconry of Buckingham). This suggests that his heirs had the will proved in both courts.

In  the name of God Amen I Christofer Ellis the elder of Hanslopp in the countie of Bucks yeoman sicke of bodie but of perfect memory thankes bee to God therefore doe make this my last will and Testament the thirteenth day of Januarie Anno Domini 1637 in manner and forme following Imprimis I comitt my Soule into the handes of Almightie God and my bodie to be buried att the discrecion of my friendes Item I give to my sonne Richard Ellis threescore poundes to be paid att the age of one and twentie  Item I give to my daughter Ann threescore poundes to be paid within one yeare after my decease  Item I give to my daughter Elizabeth threescore poundes to be paid within one yeare after my decease  Item I give to my sonne Christopher Ellis five shillinges and to his twoe sonnes Christofer and Richard five shillinges apeece to be paid within one halfe yeare after my decease  Item I give to my sonne Thomas Ellis tenn shillings and to his two children Christofer and Ann tenn shillinges apeece to be paid within one halfe yeare after my decease Item I give to my wife Elizabeth twoe ioyned bedds with all ffurniture belonging to them  Item I give to my twoe daughters Anne and Elizabeth all the rest of my householde stuffe and to the longer liver of them after their mothers decease  Item I give to my sonne Thomas Ellis one framed hovill which standeth upon pattins and all the wood upon it and belonginge to it with two sawed beames in the close lying by the orcharde side Item I give to my sonne Richard  Ellis one bedd with all the ffurniture belonginge to it to bee delivered att the age of one and twentie yeares Item I give to the poore of Hanslopp tenn shillinges within one month after my decease  The rest of my goodes and Chattles unbequeathed my debtes being paid and my Legacies discharged  I give to my wife Elizabeth whome I make Executrix of this my last will and Testament  In Witness whereof I the said Christofer Ellis have sett my hand and Seale the daie and yeare first above written And I make Anthony Smith and my sonne Christofer Ellis Overseers of this my last will and Testament  Christofer Ellis These being witnesses Henry Hall Scrivener, Christofer Ellis Anthony Smith
