Robert Hocknell of Hanslop In the name of god Amen the xth day of ffebruarie in the yeare of our lord god 1621 I Robert Hocknell of Hanslop in the County of Bucks yeoman the unprofitable servant of god, beinge weake in bodie but strong in mynde doe willinglie and with a ffree hart render and give agayne into the hands of my lord god and creator my spiritt which he of his fatherlie goodnes and mercy gave unto me when he fashioned me in my mother's wombe making me a ...... and a reasonable creature nothing doubting but for his infinitie mercies set forth in his pretious blood of his dearly beloved sonne Jesus Christe my onlie saviour and redeemer he will receave my soule into his glorie and place it in the companie of his heavenlie angells and blessed saynts and as concerninge my bodie even with a good will and a free hart I give it over commending it to the earth whereof it came nothing doubtinge but that according to the Article of my faith at the greate day of the generall resurrection when we all shall appeare before the Judgement seate of Christ I shall receave the same agayne by the mightie power of god wherewith he is able to subdue all things to himselfe not a corruptable mortall weake and vile bodie as it is now but an uncorruptable immortall stronge and perfect bodie in all poynts like unto the bodie of my lord and saviour Jesus Christe And as concerninge my wiefe and Chilldren allthough I know that god after my departure will be unto them a father a patron and deffender and will not suffer them to lack anie thinge for their good if they faythfullie rely uppon him yet for as much as god hath blessed me with worldlie substance and they are of my owne fleshe and whoe soe provideth not for his demeth the faythe and is worse ..... In fided Item I here fore renouncinge all former wills doe give and bequeathe unto them by this my last will and testament as followeth: Inmprimis unto my well beloved wiefe Anne Hocknell for her better mayntenance and livelyhood I give and bequeathe the sume of ffive powndes yearlie to be payd her by my executor quarterlie xxvs and her dyett if she please to accept hereof But if uppon anie occasion she be otherwayes mynded my executor shall give her in lue thereof yearlie other seven pownds to be payd to her quarterlie xxxvs Alsoe I give unto her yearlie halfe the fruite that shall growe in the orchard duringe her naturall liefe and every yeare halfe a ton of good wood duringe her liefe and sufficient ffyer wood duringe my liefe Alsoe my will is that she shall have the Inner parlor and the Inner Chamber above to her owne use duringe her liefe But if my sayd wiefe doe live above fower yeares after my deathe then my will is that my executor shall give her tenn pownds yearlie and her dyett or fower pownds for her dyett at her choyse Item to William my sonne I give onlie v s and to his sonne and daughter eache of them xs Item I give to Robert my sonne xxs to be payd him when he shall come to the age of xviiii yeares Alsoe my will is that my executor shall pay him yearlie till then seven pownd for his maynetenance Item I give unto my Daughter Elizabeth ffortie pownds to be payd within two yeares after my decease alsoe I give unto her one greate cupboard one greate chest one box one brasse pott two platters two pewter dishes two sawcers one salte one candlestick one ioyned bedsteed one fetherbed one bolster two pillowes two pillow beares two payre of sheetes two blanketts and one coverlid Item I give unto my Daughter Mary ffortie pownds to be payd her when she shall accomplishe the age of xxvi yeares alsoe I give unto her one chest one Box one Brasse pott two platters two pewter dishes two sawcers one salt one candlestick one ioyned bedstead one fetherbed one bolster two pillowes two pillow beares two payre of sheetes two blanketts and one Coverlid Item I give to Anne my daughter ffortie powndes to be payd unto her when she shall accomplishe the age of xxi yeares alsoe I give unto her one court cupboard one chest one box one ioyned bedsteed one fetherbed one bolster two pollowes two pillow beare two payre of sheetes two Blanketts one Coverled one brasse pott two platters two pewter dishes two sawcers one salte and one candlestick Item I give unto Margaret my daughter ffortie pownds to be payd unto her when she shall come to the age of xxi yeares alsoe I give unto her one chest one box one bedsteed one fetherbed one bolster at two pillowes two pillow beares two payre of sheetes two Blanketts one coverlid one brasse pott two platters two pewter dishes two sawcers onesalte and a Candlestick Item all my lynnen wollen pewter and small brasse and halfe the milke vessell I give unto Anne Hocknell my wiefe to use or dispose at her pleasure Item my will is that if anie of my aforenamed Children doe willfullie matche themselves in marriage contrarie to the good likinge of their mother to the greevinge of her mynde whose contented liefe I much respecte to provide for that then the aforenamed portion of anie of them she offendinge shalbe payd unto my wiefe to dispose of at her pleasure and to them .... shall soe offend I bequeath by this my will onlie vs and noe more for their portion moreover my will is that if anie of my forenamed children doe departe this liefe before their portion be due unto them that then thirtie pownds of that portion of anie of them soe dyinge shalbe equalie devided amongst those that shalbe liveinge And the rest of the portion to remayne to my executors use Item the beds, table cheares and stooles that used to be in the parlour I give to Anne my wiefe to use duringe her natural liefe and afterward to remayne to my executor for all the rest of goods cattell and chattles moveable or unmoveable I give and bequeath unto my eldest sonne Richard Hocknell whome I make my sole executor of this my last will and testament paying all the legcaies heerin contayned and discharging all other debts which by law or conscience are due by me unto anie other And I doe appoynte and make my well beloved and trustie freends Richard Hocknell of Wotton and John Cooke of Hanslop to be the overseers of this my last will and Testament And I doe give eache of them for their paynes vs In wittnesse whereof I have written on this my will with my owne hand and have hereunto subscribed my name the day and yeare first above written by me Robert Hocknell Item I give to Elizabeth Edward my sisters daughter by this my will xs Proved 20th October 1622 |
