The Pest House used to stand on Wood End Lane (Forest Road) and was used to isolate people with contagious diseases. In the survey of 1779 the land and cottage on this site are shown as part of the estate of Edward Watts, and let to William Crick who was farming the adjoining fields. In the survey of 1910, the property was still part of the Watts estate, but was no longer let with the adjoining land. So the tenant, Harvey Allen, was probably living there. |
