Coat of Arms of Lady Pierrepont

The coat of arms on the plaque is that of Pierrepont family on the left and the Pelham family on the right.  These would have been the arms of Lucy Pelham following her marriage to Gervase Pierrepont, 1st and last Baron Pierrepont of Hanslope.  They were married c 10 March 1679/80.  She died on 8 July 1721.  He died in 1715.  They left no children.

Gervase Pierrepont and then his nephew who inherited from him, held the manor of Hanslope in the early 18th century.  It is believed that one of the Pierrepont (or Pierrepoints) created a charity for the benefit of Hanslope poor..  click here for more on Lords of the Manor of Hanslope & Castlethorpe.

Further research is required to establish the reason for the title 'Coronation Cottages', but it may be connected to Gervase appointment to the peerage.
