Church from the Square

St James the Great, Hanslope, from the Market Square. The Church dates from the 12th century. Its impressive tower, the highest in Buckinghamshire, was added in the 15th century when Hanslope was one of the wealthiest villages in the county and part of the estates of the great Earls of Warwick. On the right is Stafford House, thought to be of medieval origin and named for Sir Robert and Lady Jane Stafford who were buried in the church in the 16th century. During the 18th - 19th centuries it was the workhouse.
